Pride & Prejudice (2005)

IMDB: Pride & Prejudice (2005)

Jude and I caught the matinee of Pride & Prejudice today and I have to say, if you are a Jane Austen fan, this is a fine rendition.

As an unapologetic viewer of 'Chick Flicks' this was one of the cream of the crop. Having not seen the highly acclaimed 1995 BBC miniseries with Colin Firth, I have little to compare this production to. That said, my eyes got a bit misty at parts, even though I was familiar with the story.

Keira Knightley, Matthew MacFadyen, and Donald Sutherland all did great work.

For some reason, I mistook Matthew MacFadyen (Mr. Darcy) for Vinnie Jones aka Bullet Tooth Tony from Snatch. So when I got home I IMDB'd him and found no films I'd seen MacFadyen in, yet I could swear he looks so familiar to me.

And let me say that MacFadyen's portrayal of Darcy was sublime -- beginning as the arrogant SOB, and progressing to removing the assumed layers of persona to become, in the end, the 'reality' of Mr. Darcy.

Rating: 7
