Cute, but no cigar. Grant and Barrymore could have mailed this in.

I rated this as a 6/7 because although intriguing and disturbing wrighting by Mamet, I don't know if it engenders repeat viewing.

Consider it Falling Down 'lite' painted with a coarser brush.

Arthur Franz's portrayal as the serial killer begging for the police to stop him is quite poignant, especially given this was written in 1952, where similar film noir and crime tales were literally and figuratively black and white presentations of characters.

Much emphasis was made on the need for early mental health care when those with psychopathic or sociopathic characteristics as a preventative to numbers of victims.

I really enjoyed this film as a kid, and this re-watching of it didn't give me the same thrill -- somewhat perhaps because the I believe in this rare case that the remake "Switch" with Ellen Barkin and Jimmy Smits is a better telling of the story.

Put it this way - I probably won't have the desire to re-watch Goodbye Charlie anytime soon, but could watch "Switch" repeatedly.
